A former neighbour converted her first "glamper",an AWD horse box called Ruby and she was absolutely gorgeous. For her second, we were asked to convert an old and neglected Rice horse trailer. The brief was to make a day/bed room to compliment Ruby, essentially an extension, which was to become Myrtle.

Myrtle was converted between April and August 2016, with some initial work to fit basic 12v electrics being carried out, prior to going to the V festival at Weston Park in 2015. The conversion was carried out in tandem with the building of Nelly and the two interiors are very similar, though Myrtle has a beautiful curved internal roof, which wasn't feasible on Nelly.

Myrtle had to be "off grid", thus all her lighting and sockets are solar powered via a 150W panel feeding a leisure battery through a voltage regulator. A section of her outer skin was cut away to allow the design, manufacture and fitting of a bespoke leaded window for plenty of natural light. To enhance the light airy feel, two Victorian half glass doors were refurbished and a custom frame was made and fitted, complete with cedar surround. The original ramp was stripped down to bare metal and replaced with a decked area, where guests will be able to enjoy a glass of wine or beer as the sun sets.

Myrtle has full cavity wall insulation, using natural sheeps wool sandwiched between her outer metal skin and her internal v board cladding. The result is a warm and cosy bedroom at night, yet a cool retreat from the hot summer sun during the day.
